Though I am ashamed to admit it, Madelyn has been using a pacifier at bedtime. Sonny and I both know that she is too old for one, but it has been so hard for us to take her "pappy" away. I recently decided to throw Maddie a pappy party to celebrate what a big girl she is and to make a happy occasion of this change in her life. We decorated the house with pink balloons and streamers- Madelyn's favorite color. I gave her a box to decorate and then the girls and I went on a pappy hunt through the house to collect all of her pacifiers. Madelyn kissed each and every one of them good-bye and placed them in the box along with a note to the Pappy Fairy. Maddie solemnly placed the box on our front porch where it was magically replaced with a stuffed animal that lights up and sings lullabies. We sang "Happy Pappy Day" to her and she got to make a special big girl wish. My little sweetheart is growing up.

The Pappy Party

oh my gosh megan, can you seriously write all of your ideas down for me so i can always have them on hand.....seriously!!!
ReplyDeleteThat is hilarious! I hope that she never thinks of a pacifier with longing again. The pappy party is a great idea... and maybe we could use the idea for other things too... I wish I could have been there for the party!
ReplyDeleteYou are so great at making a hard time positive! I love it! That is so cute....and Yes! she is growing up so fast....I hope I can be as good of a Mom as all of my wonderful sisters!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to handle that! I wish my parting with my "wassa-wire" had been that pleasant. It was quite traumatic actually...
ReplyDeleteOkay...can you get more creative? Amazing!! So cute.
ReplyDeleteI often feel ashamed at myself for letting my Alex have hers still at 2 1/2.... but, I really want her to get through cold and flu season 1st. She is always sick and I'm always checking her breathing! Isabel was never sick. Isabel gave up her pacifier before she was 1 - and no issues. -So hopefully we'll be having our own Secor version "pappy party" (cute) soon too.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! She looks so old Meg! It has been too long sister, too long! Since I've seen you guys that is. She is a doll! What a clever mom you are!
